Happiness lino

My portrait of one of the sisters in Kurt Schwitters tale of Happiness for the centre of my bottle label. The bottles themselves are a few I've selected from my collection of old, found ones (see earlier blog entry).

More bottles...

I'm creating another 3 bottle labels based around various Merz stories to accompany my Good Man bottle.   Each bottled product is different and relates to the story from which it is taken. The labels also feature a central lino portrait of the key character from each of the 3 tales (Lucky Hans, one of the sisters from 'Happiness' and the giant in 'He'), as well as each being a different colour and slightly different shape.

For 'He', I decided to design the labels for a growth serum. The character's face is only half visible in this portrait due to his incredible height. Here's the central portrait so far...

For 'Happiness' I created a beauty serum. Side effects include: unwanted attention, extreme jealousy and even death. Portrait and label design... (need assembling and colours tweaking so they match).

Finally, I've created bottled luck for Lucky Hans. Just fiddling with colours on this one at the moment (experiment below).

Finished Puppets

The pictures aren't the best but here are my two finished Good Man and Lucky Hans puppets. I made them out of hard board which I cut up (with a little help from my dad's jigsaw) and painted with acrylic, before attaching the limbs with dowel and stringing and gluing it all together. Each have a painted front and back, and I'm trying to find some nice lightpulls to attach to the end of the each string.

Penguin Design Award

Here's my entry for this years Penguin design award. I started off by creating a screen print stencil of the head, triangles and any text which appears in blue before finishing off the rest in Photoshop. I wanted to create something quite graphic for this brief so that it'd stand out on a bookshelf, choosing to limit my palette to only three colours.

Merzbox Exhibition

My little bottle filled with the blood of the Good Man is currently part of a little exhibition in Bristol alongside some other rather lovely pieces by fellow course members.

If you're in the area and fancy a quick peek, then here are the details...

AOI in progress...

Here's a sneaky preview of my piece for the AOI Secret London Competition. I decided to base the piece around bizarre objects that have been lost and found on the London Underground. So far I've created all 17 of my objects (which has taken ages!) and all that remains to do is to fill in all of the gaps with houses, flats, stadiums and modes of London transport (as in my original black and white visual). The piece will be A2 in size.
